Ophiuchus : What is you new astrological sign?

For most of us our astrological signs mean a lot to us .They are us. They define us. People believe that our personality is immensely affected by the alignment of the stars and planets. They take theirs signs seriously and the news that the sign dates may have changed is unsettling to many. Astrological signs are based on the position of the sun relative to the Zodiac constellations on the day one is born

However 2011 has brought news that your sign may not be permanent.. The Ophiuchus is a sign in the Sidereal Zodiac. This is a moving Zodiac. The Western Zodiac is fixed. Astrology experts say that the moving Zodiac that acknowledges Ophiuchus has moved almost a whole sign from the fixed on e. So now there are new Astrological sign dates. Capricorn: Jan. 20 - Feb. 16, Aquarius: Feb. 16 - March 11, Pisces: March 11- April 18
Aries: April 18- May 13, Taurus: May 13- June 21, Gemini: June 21- July 20, Cancer: July 20- Aug. 10, Leo: Aug. 10- Sept. 16, Virgo: Sept. 16- Oct. 30, Libra: Oct. 30- Nov. 23, Scorpio: Nov. 23- Nov. 29, Ophiuchus: Nov. 29- Dec. 17 and Sagittarius: Dec. 17- Jan. 20.

However there is some confusion about the term Ophiuchus. Some experts says that it has more to do with the stars, and its is not astrology. In other words it is not a sign. There are only four seasons with beginning, middle and end .This makes for 12 Zodiac signs. So there is no 13th sign. The Western astrology is based on seasons while the Eastern astrology relies on constellations to establish its signs. The Zodiac used by the Eastern astrologer is also called the sidereal Zodiac, has a 13th sign called Ophiuchus - a constellation of a man wrapped in a snake.

Some experts have claimed that for over three thousands years the sun positions vis a vis the stars have changed. However due to the Earths' movements are the reasons the position of the sun and the stars have "changed". So horoscope signs that are determined by constellations position have changed by as much as a month.
.
So technical Ophiuchus has been there all along. However astrologers may not have used it for various reason including that it is only 19 days, and that the world is accustomed to the 12 Zodiac signs. Some says the ancient Babylonians preferred 12 to 13 signs.

However if Ophiuchus is accepted - then it has to be assigned an element such as that of other signs. Water: Scorpio, Pisces, Cancer; Fire: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius; Air: Gemini, Libra, Aquarius; Earth: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn).

Some have said that the supposed new sign would only affect those born after 2009. However why would this be so? The Ophiuchus sign was discovered as long ago as the other Zodiac constellations. The Earth will continue to shift on its axis, meaning that even after other years some signs will also change.

However astrology doesn't operate the same was as astronomy. So for the believers of Western astrology there is nothing to worry about. Nothing has really changed. You are still you.
